The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) establishes a clear hierarchy of measures for dealing with risks from manual handling. These are:

• avoid hazardous manual handling operations so far as reasonably practicable
• assess any hazardous manual handling operations that cannot be avoided
• reduce the risk of injury so far as reasonably practicable

Course Overview - Manual Handling Train the Trainer and Assessors

Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to assess manual handling tasks which cannot be avoided, and reduce the risk of injury to the lowest acceptable level. The Regulations also require that suitable and sufficient training is provided to those employees who carry out such tasks to enable them to do so in a safe manner.

Aims of the course

This course is designed to assist individuals who are responsible for delivering training in relation to the manual handling regulations.

 

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:


- Understand and apply the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
- Understand the basic workings of the spine and joints and possible causes of injury
- Produce suitable materials for delivering manual handling and safe lifting training courses
- Advise others of suitable control measures to be adopted when undertaking manual handling assessments and training.

Duration:

Two days, during which delegates learn the essential information for anyone to perform lifting and manual handling operations in a safe manner. They also learn the basics of delivering a presentation, and have the opportunity to deliver part of the safe lifting course material to others on the course.

 

The course concludes with a written multi-choice examination to demonstrate student’s competence to deliver effective manual handling training.
