The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) establishes a clear hierarchy of measures for dealing with risks from manual handling. These are:

• avoid hazardous manual handling operations so far as reasonably practicable
• assess any hazardous manual handling operations that cannot be avoided
• reduce the risk of injury so far as reasonably practicable

Course Overview - Manual Handling Assessors

Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to assess Manual Handling tasks that cannot be avoided, and reduce the risk of injury to the lowest practical level.


This One-day course covers the essential knowledge that is needed by those required to undertake Manual Handling assessments.

Aims of the course

This course is designed to assist risk assessors in carrying out a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks associated with Manual Handling.
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
Understand the requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
Carry out a Manual Handling assessment, using an adapted format
Recognise the various methods available for reducing manual handling risks
